WINTER MXHH Program

From November through March it is extremely difficult to grow produce in British Columbia due to the lack of light. Light is the biggest component in producing fruits and vegetables (photosynthesis). Additionally, colder growing conditions mean extremely high heating expenses that would seriously impact the cost of produce for consumers.

In response to customer demand for year round supply, BC Hot House Foods Inc. has aligned itself with quality greenhouse growers from Mexico to produce product for our customers to our exacting standards, keeping the product offering consistent with what that we produce locally during our growing season. We do this so that our customers can receive product that is of the highest level, year round.

Our staff and growers work closely with our southern partners to ensure high quality and food safety standards are followed. Every greenhouse and packinghouse in Mexico is audited yearly by an independent 3rd party professional agency for Good Agricultural Practices that include sanitation, hygiene, water quality, and chemical usage.  The produce is also federally inspected at the border crossings into Canada (CFIA) and United States (FDA).  Once the product is received in our distribution centres, our Quality Assurance department conducts our own inspection.

In 2008 BC Hot House Foods Inc. introduced the MX Hot House label. The objective is to clearly identify the origin of our products while ensuring quality and consistency.
